International Organizations

Codex alimentarius – FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN) and WHO (World Health Organization) food standards, including an online data base on food additives.

International Coffee Organization (ICO) – ICO is the main intergovernmental organization for coffee set up in London in 1963 under the auspices of the United Nations. Its 77 Members include 45 coffee exporting and 32 importing countries.

International Food Information Council – IFIC’s purpose is to bridge the gap between science and communications by collecting and disseminating scientific information on food safety, nutrition and health (USA).

International Olive Council (IOC) – International organization governing the production and sales of olive oil. Based in Madrid, it was founded by 23 member states that produce more than 85 % of the world production of olive oil. IOC is responsible for the management of the 1956 agreement of the founding states. The United States is not part of IOC.

International Taste & Quality Institute – iTQi – iTQi is an independent Chef- and Sommelier-based organization dedicated to judging, awarding and promoting superior tasting food and drink from around the world.

Slow Food – Slow Food is a non-profit, eco-gastronomic member-supported organization that was founded in 1989 to counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat.

Slow Food Canada – Canadian branch of Slow Food.

America’s Best Professional Food Contest – Private organization specializing in analysis of food products.

DLG Food Test Center – German Agricultural Society for the promotion of technical and scientific progress in food products. DLG has tested more than 20,000 food products and given a seal of approval for products that satisfy its quality and flavour criteria.

Guild of Fine Food – British organization promoting food taste quality.
